The fields of geriatrics and gerontology (healthcare for the elderly) are not included in the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine or other universities in Albania. As a result, medical students and recent graduates have limited training on ageing, the needs of the elderly, and geriatric healthcare.
In this context, the Government of Albania has approved a Plan of Action for Aging 2021-2024, which aims, among other things, to develop capacities for training in geriatrics. The Project has joined these efforts by offering:
– Support to the Faculty of Medicine for the development of a specific training module on geriatrics and gerontology within the existing postgraduate training cycles.
– Support for the educators who will be involved in teaching geriatrics/gerontology through the supply of textbooks, activities such as “Train the Trainer,” etc.
