Family medicine teams continue training on NCD prevention and control

In September-October 2023, selected teams of family medicine practitioners in Tirana, Elbasan, Korça, and Shkodra will be part of a series of Training-of-Trainer sessions regarding the implementation of clinical protocols and guidelines for prevalent non-infectious diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, and COPD.

The training consists of 20 six-hour sessions on the “Use of Protocols and Clinical Guidelines for NCDs” for 60 family doctors and nurses from 19 healthcare centres in the mentioned regions, who are selected by the Local Health Care Units and respective HC managers.

At the conclusion of this training, participants will be equipped not only to implement protocols and clinical guidelines in their daily practice but also to establish Peer Groups in their respective healthcare centres with the aim of transferring the acquired knowledge and skills to the rest of the family medicine team.

The approach of these training sessions emphasizes practical work with clinical cases, complemented by detailed educational materials. The training will also focus on integrating the roles of the family doctor and nurse, on indicators for monitoring the implementation of relevant protocols and guidelines, as well as on the regular documentation in the patient’s file of the contributions of both the doctor and the nurse. Additionally, there will be dedicated sessions to develop the pedagogical skills that are essential in aiding participants to become trainers for their peers following the training.

These accredited trainings are conducted within the framework of the support HAP is providing to the Operator of Health Services and will be carried out by the ABC Foundation.
