Cascade training strengthens professional skills of nurses in 160 health centres

A total of 371 nurses from 160 health centres have strengthened their skills in providing home-based care through cascade training sessions organised with the support of the Health for All Project (HAP).

The process began in September 2025, when HAP supported the training of 60 nurse-trainers from the four Regional Health Care Operators of Tirana, Vlora, Elbasan and Shkodra. The training combined the application of Standard Nursing Procedures for home-based care with peer-training methodologies, laying the groundwork for the further establishment of Peer Groups. To support this process, the four Regional Operators were also equipped with nine simulation training kits.

Following this initial preparation, 21 Local Units of Health Care independently organised 27 accredited four-day training sessions for nurses from 160 health centres, including 95 centres not directly supported by HAP.

Through demonstrations, mannequin-based exercises, hands-on practice with fellow participants and role-playing activities, the programme integrated theoretical knowledge with real-life situations nurses encounter when delivering care in patients’ homes. Preparation for the trainer role also included guidance on facilitating practical training through Peer Groups.

The implementation of these training sessions demonstrates the potential of the cascade training model to expand both professional knowledge and the pool of nurses equipped to provide home-based care. By strengthening local training capacities, the initiative contributes to the delivery of standardised, high-quality home-based care services, bringing essential care closer to the patients who need it.
