Elderly Care in PHC: ASCK Accredited Training Started

Training-of-Trainer sessions regarding the provision of medical care for the elderly in primary healthcare will be conducted throughout the months of October and November 2023.

With the support of HAP, teams consisting of doctors and nurses from selected healthcare centers in Tirana, Elbasan, Shkodër, Berat, and Korçë will be trained in implementing guidelines, treatment protocols, and clinical instruments outlined in the “Medical Care for the Elderly in Primary Healthcare” manual.

The training includes discussions on clinical cases such as osteoporosis, falls, dementia, depression, urinary incontinence, nutrition and weight issues, rational prescription of medications, and comprehensive geriatric assessment. Each clinical case is discussed in small and large groups with the\ rotational participation of all attendees. Discussions on each clinical case involve the use of necessary tools for clinical decision-making, delegation of tasks between the doctor and nurse, as well as counselling or educating the patient’s caregiver/family member.

Upon completion of this training, participating doctors and nurses will be able to set up Peer Groups in their respective healthcare centres to share the knowledge and skills acquired with their colleagues. They will receive further support from HAP for their application for Peer Groups and for their communication with ASCK.

These trainings are accredited by ASCK and are being conducted by the Ryder Albania Association.
