Representatives from the Embassy of Switzerland in Tirana and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) visited the Dajç Health Centre in Shkodër to observe first-hand the impact of HAP’s contributions on the healthcare services provided to patients.
The team, comprising Ms. Erica Placella, Head of the Health Sector and Ms. Sabine Piccard, Head of the Health and Governance Sector at SDC, and Ms. Zhenihen Zanaj, Health Programme Officer at the Swiss Embassy in Albania, discussed the achievements and challenges of implementing home-based care, non-communicable disease protocols, including elderly care, and mental health disorder management. They also expressed interest in better understanding the needs for further support from HAP.
Dr. Besnik Haxhija, a family physician and Manager of the Health Centre, elaborated on the importance of training in preventing and better managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to improve the quality of services offered to residents. He highlighted the critical role of documenting patients’ health status and periodic monitoring for better management of community health conditions. Dr. Haxhija attributed the smooth operation of the Dajç Health Centre to the excellent collaboration among staff members and the close relationship between the medical team and the local community.
Home care coordinator Ms. Arta Zogu praised the invaluable training provided by HAP, which has given her professional confidence and flexibility in patient management. She shared how her skills and access to the necessary work tools have enhanced her ability to deliver healthcare services with greater ease and professionalism.
Ms. Lindita Haxhija, Head of Primary Care at the Regional Operator in Shkodër, emphasised the importance of close collaboration between the Regional Operator and the Local Health Care Unit with the health centre. This cooperation ensures smooth operations and motivates the staff to deliver the best possible healthcare services to the community.
