Field trip: Progress of Home Care and NCD Protocols Implementation

On 12 June, a team composed of leadership and technical staff from the HAP project visited the Local Unit of Health Care of Kavaja and subsequently the Health Centres of Golem and Rrogozhina, in order to gain a better understanding of the progress in implementing home care services and clinical protocols for non-communicable diseases, mental health, and elderly care.

In Kavaja, HAP representatives – Project Director Prof. Kaspar Wyss, Project Manager Mr. Besim Nuri, Quality of Care Specialist Ehadu Mersini and Nursing Specialist Ms. Sajmira Adëraj – were welcomed by the Director of the LUHC, Mr. Klodian Shehi, Head of Primary Health Care Services Ms. Erla Veliu, and Home Care Coordinator Ms. Alba Muka. Both parties jointly appreciated the fruitful cooperation in implementing the project’s interventions, as well as the existing needs and opportunities for further support.

The visits continued at the Golem Health Centre and then the Rrogozhina Health Centre, where the HAP team was warmly received by the management and medical staff.

Cooperation with these centres began recently, in April 2025, when HAP supported the introduction of home care services by providing paramedical equipment, training nurses on standard nursing procedures, and establishing Peer Groups for knowledge and experience sharing.

During the discussions, management and medical staff emphasised the significant impact that HAP’s support has had on providing higher-quality care, both at home and within the health centres.

What stood out in the conversations was the positive influence of HAP in shaping a new culture of work and collaboration among professionals, be that through ongoing training as well as through Peer Groups, and the unanimous commitment to continue the innovations introduced by HAP beyond the project’s completion.
