The training of trainers on the “Use of the Guide for Managing Mental Health Disorders in Primary Healthcare” was successfully completed with the participation of primary healthcare professionals from selected health centres in Tirana, Elbasan, Korça, Berat, Bulqiza, and Shkodër.
The training was provided by the “Shtegu i shpresës” (The Path of Hope) Foundation within the framework of the HAP project and aimed to equip family doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers with the skills to use clinical guides and tools for managing mental health disorders. Participants were also trained to share the acquired knowledge with their peers through the Peer Group model, a well-established form of continuing education that fosters collaboration and professional exchange.
The training programme spanned two intensive days and included theoretical presentations, interactive activities, and practical exercises. On the first day, topics such as principles of care for individuals with mental health disorders and the use of assessment tools for diagnosis and treatment were addressed, while the second day focused on clinical cases and the management of psychoses and self-harming behaviours.
Participants highly appreciated the training, emphasising the value of its practical approach and the prepared materials.
This training is part of ongoing efforts to integrate mental health services into primary healthcare, making them more accessible and effective for citizens.
