From Policy to Practice: Regional Delegation Visits Vorë Health Centre to Explore Primary Health Care Improvements

On 5 May 2026, the Vorë Health Centre welcomed a delegation participating in the regional exchange of health programmes supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Eastern Europe. The field visit provided an opportunity to explore first-hand the practical implementation of primary health care strengthening interventions in Albania.

The visit began with a guided tour of the health centre, led by the facility’s management and nursing team, allowing participants to gain insight into the organisation of services, daily operations, and the collaborative roles of healthcare professionals in delivering patient-centred care.

During the discussion sessions, the Vorë Health Centre team presented their experience in improving the quality of primary health care, with a particular focus on the management of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), the delivery of home care services, and emergency care at the primary health care level. The discussions highlighted key improvements introduced in service organisation, the evolving roles of doctors and nurses, and areas requiring further development.

The exchange offered valuable opportunities for dialogue between health professionals, programme representatives, and international guests on the practical challenges and achievements of health system reform. By observing how policies and models are translated into everyday practice, participants gained insights that can support learning and adaptation across different countries and health system contexts.
