The organisation “Together for Life” hosted a roundtable discussion on 12 December 2024, under the theme “Ensuring the Sustainability of Home Healthcare Services for the Elderly through Dedicated Budgeting”. The event was held at Hotel Tirana International, bringing together representatives of public institutions, non-profit organisations, and healthcare professionals.
The roundtable aimed to highlight the challenges faced by elderly individuals with mobility limitations, emphasising the need for dedicated budgeting for home healthcare services. During the presentation of the experts’ report, shortcomings in the implementation of current policies were identified, and specific recommendations for improving home care services were discussed.
Key figures addressed the audience, including Ms Albana Kociu, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and Ms Ruth Huber, Swiss Ambassador to Albania. In the discussions that ensued, valuable expert insights were also provided by Dr Besim Nuri, Project Manager at HAP, Ms Jeta Deda, Director General of the Healthcare Service Operator, Dr Albani Ylli, Representative of the Albanian Association of Gerontology, Ms Blerina Duka, Chair of the Nursing Order of Albania.
The discussions underscored the necessity for a more sustainable approach to financing home healthcare services, improving collaboration among institutions, and identifying mechanisms to motivate nurses in delivering this new type of service.
This event was organised as part of the project “Elderly People with Mobility Impairments Enjoy Fundamental Rights to a Dignified Life”, implemented by TFL with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation through the HAP project aligning with the broader healthcare advocacy efforts, particularly for vulnerable groups.
