HAP & Pema e Jetës: Physiotherapy, a Light of Hope for People with Multiple Sclerosis

The Pema e Jetës Foundation, with the support of the Health for All Programme (HAP), successfully organised an advocacy meeting titled “Physiotherapy: A Light of Hope for People with Multiple Sclerosis”. The event brought together health professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to highlight the critical role of physiotherapy in improving the lives of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) and beyond.

Key Points Discussed at the Event:

  • The vital need for physiotherapy: Experts emphasised that physiotherapy is not just an auxiliary service but a crucial rehabilitative tool. Its inclusion in health centres can significantly enhance the quality of life for MS patients and other individuals requiring rehabilitation.
  • Presentation of findings: A detailed report showcasing the benefits of physiotherapy in improving neurological functions for MS patients was unveiled, accompanied by actionable recommendations for implementation.
  • Addressing challenges and opportunities: Attendees explored the obstacles to offering physiotherapy services in primary care and discussed potential solutions to expand access.

The meeting reinforced the idea that physical rehabilitation represents a new beginning for people living with multiple sclerosis, the majority of whom are aged between 20 and 40. These young individuals often face significant challenges in maintaining their independence, but physiotherapy offers a chance to regain control over their lives.

To further advocate for accessible physiotherapy services, the Pema e Jetës Foundation invites the public to sign the petition to integrate physiotherapy for MS patients into primary health care centres.
