HAP holds discussion forum on standardising the treatment of NCDs and the role of Peer Groups in Primary Health Care

As part of the capitalisation process of the “Health for All” (HAP) Project, a discussion forum was held on the theme “Standardisation of the treatment of NCDs and the role of Peer Groups: Reflection on the quality improvement process in Primary Health Care”, with the participation of institutional partners, Primary Health Care (PHC) professionals, and representatives of health institutions.

The activity was organised as part of the project’s capitalisation stage, a process aimed at identifying and assessing the experiences, practices, and lessons learned over the years of implementing HAP interventions in support of strengthening Primary Health Care in Albania.

During the forum, discussions focused on the project’s contribution to improving the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in PHC, through the updating of clinical protocols and guidelines for major chronic conditions such as arterial hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, asthma, and COPD. Participants also reflected on the process of implementing these protocols in clinical practice, the challenges encountered, and their impact on improving the quality of patient care.

Particular emphasis was placed on the role of Peer Groups (PGs) as an effective model of continuing education for PHC professionals. Through presentations, testimonies, and open discussions, concrete experiences were shared on how Peer Groups have contributed to strengthening clinical practice, team collaboration, and knowledge exchange among health professionals.

The forum also served as a space for reflection on the sustainability and opportunities for further consolidation of these models in support of continuous quality improvement in PHC.

HAP thanks all participants for their contribution, insights, and shared experiences during the event. As the project moves towards completion, the experiences and practices developed over the years remain an important foundation for further strengthening Primary Health Care in Albania.
