Albanian Academy of Family Physicians Resumes Activities – First Conference Coming Soon with HAP’s support

The Albanian Academy of Family Physicians (ASHMF) has resumed its activities in a new format, aiming to strengthen professional and scientific collaboration and contribute to the development of family medicine in Albania.

This renewed activity seeks to consolidate the Academy as a platform for exchanging experiences, updating knowledge and supporting family physicians. This new phase also includes the launch of www.ashmf.al, which will support communication with members, partners and the public.

Under the leadership of Dr Artenca Çollaku, ASHMF is preparing to hold the National Conference on Family Medicine, entitled “Best Practices in Chronic Disease Management and Geriatrics.” The Swiss Government, through the Health for All Project (HAP), is the conference’s principal supporter, in line with the project’s mission to improve the quality of care for patients with chronic conditions and older people.

The conference aims to bring together experts from Albania and abroad to share scientific research, clinical experience and contemporary practices in primary health care. Topics include the implementation of clinical protocols, hypertension and diabetes management, polypharmacy, frailty in older people and collaboration among professionals to deliver more coordinated care.

The conference was originally scheduled for 16 October 2026 at the Tirana International Hotel but was postponed due to the situation arising from protests in Tirana. The rescheduled date will be announced through ASHMF’s social media and official website.
