In March 2022, HAP published the “Medical care for the elderly in primary healthcare” manual, following approval by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as a means of reference in the daily work of family doctors and family nurses for the provision of health care to elderly patients.
For the purpose of training health professionals in the utilization of treatment guides, protocols and clinical tools relevant to this manual as regards the seven most common situations encountered in elderly patients, Trainings of Trainers were carried out, involving teams comprising family doctors and nurses from 80 HCs in Dibra and Fier regions. Following that, in collaboration with the respective Local Units of Healthcare, HAP will support the establishment of Peer Groups in these HCs, as a means to ensure Continuing Education in relation to elderly care in PHC and treatment protocol application for the most common health issues experienced by elderly patients.
